Perkiomen School is a traditional and structured coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school. Founded by a descendant of a Schwenkfelder immigrant in 1875, Perkiomen School has a philosophy focused on creating an effective environment for individual growth and for the development of personal ethics.
Perkiomen is a world community. Perkiomen admits students in grades five through twelve and offers a year for postgraduate students. We embrace diversity, and actively pursue students and faculty from many neighborhoods of our own country and the world.
As a school, Perkiomen strives to develop individuals who appreciate learning and who work to acquire the skills necessary to learn. Perkiomen works to create an awareness in its students that education is a lifelong pursuit. We help our students focus on ideals which are purposeful, reasonable, consistent with traditional values, and spiritually balanced. We seek to nurture common sense, a sense of justice, a sense of honor, a sense of responsibility, and a sense of humor.
As members of the Perkiomen School, we have established the following goals for all students:
ACADEMIC - to develop an ability to think clearly, communicate effectively, and acquire a broad sense of knowledge from which to make intelligent judgments;
AESTHETIC - to develop an appreciation of nature and beauty and an ability to discriminate between their many facets and forms through instruction, example, and opportunities for personal experience;
CULTURAL - to develop an appreciation for all cultures both past and present;
PHYSICAL - to develop a commitment to a sound mind and body through athletics and extracurricular activities, which allows students to attain their full potential;
SPIRITUAL - to develop a sensitivity to, and an understanding of, the Judeo-Christian faiths and religions throughout the world.Academics.
As a school, Perkiomen strives to develop individuals who appreciate learning, and who work to acquire the skills necessary to learn. We endeavor to develop an inquisitive student who knows how to set appropriate goals, and who can work independently once those goals are established. Our environment provides support and challenge. Honors and Advanced Placement courses are offered in all academic departments.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Overview
The ESL department offers courses for the beginning to advanced English language learner. The overall focus of the ESL department is to help international students successfully integrate into mainstream academic classes. The first priority of the ESL department is to aid the language learner in their acquisition of oral and written language and communication skills. Daily practice of conversational and written English is incorporated into all classes. Two instructional periods for students at the ESL I & II levels allow for intensive instruction for all areas of language acquisition. In the lower level courses vocabulary and grammatical structures are introduced, reviewed and strengthened. As students move up to ESL III, grammatical instruction is dictated by student needs as identified in their written work products. Another priority of the ESL department is to increase student comprehension and speed when reading English literature. A variety of activities and techniques are utilized to advance students' ability to reflect on what they have read, boost student critical thinking skills as well as provide opportunities for them to practice reading both aloud and silently in English. Our final priority is to help the international student population adjust to and successfully integrate into an American educational environment. Teachers in the department continuously coach students about standards of behavior, manner of dress, proper social interaction, cultural norms and customs. Students know that members of the department are always available to help them successfully navigate through their days as long as they are here at Perkiomen.

PERKIOMEN SUMMER PROGRAMS
Perkiomen Summer provides students a variety of opportunities from athletics to academics. During the summer, PERK turns into a place where students can experience a variety of activities from the beginning of summer all the way through the last week before classes begin. Campers can participate in activities that interest them, which will help them learn and grow.
The early weeks of summer consist of camps for boys and girls in several sports and academic areas. The outside athletic programs are run by nationally and internationally known organizations, while our athletic and academic camps are run by current Perkiomen staff members who excel in their field.
Later in the summer Perkiomen's own ESL@PERK intensive English language program finishes the summer just prior to the start of another academic year.
